TGI-Freitag*
Any Zurich hipster or wannabe hipster has to have a Freitag bag. The Freitag brothers started making these messenger bags in the 1990's by doing what the Swiss do so well: recycling and design. Made from recycled truck tarps and seatbelts, no two are alike. The bags quickly caught on, Freitag soon became synoymous with urban cool, and the line expanded to include bags of all styles, shapes and sizes, wallets, and of course, i-pod cases. Even their flagship store in Zurich is made from a stack of recycled shipping containers. Can't make it all the way to Zurich to pick up one of these trendy bags? You can design your own and have it shipped to you in no time.
*for non-native English speakers unfamiliar with the term: TGIF = Thank God It's Friday
for non-German speakers: Freitag = Friday in German

Now that's really interesting!
Very good idea on the second blog for the additional photos! So, do you have a Freitag bag, and if so, which one?
z,
basedinvilligen.blogspot.com (too lazy to log in at Blogger right now)
Looks quite interesting, especially to design your own!!
Ainz, i used to work for a company called Pleuss-Staufer, somewhere nr. Oftringen. Is it still there? Wish i could remember the address of the apartment i stayed in, i'd put in a request to you! I'll keep thinking...
That cathced my eye !
cool bags, a little pricey though!
z-no, I don't have a Freitag bag. When I got here I thought they were kind of ugly because they always looked dirty, but they've grown on me, so now I sort of want one. I think I want one of the smaller ones--like the 'Laura' style.
jazzy-yes, you're right. They are pricey, and I completely forgot to mention that. But after a few years in Zurich, the prices of things don't shock me any more.
I totally have had the same progression from thinking them ugly to appreciating them now. And again, like you, Laura or Lassie are the one's I'd go for. I've been checking on Ricardo once in a while, to see if a used one comes up that I like.
I have seen people carrying these bags on the subway in NYC. Very cool, esp. the recycling part.
