I really don't know what this was all about...When I went outside for lunch yesterday, there was something in the air. It smelled kind of funny--a bit horse-y... or farm-y...Ok, it just stank, which is really unusual for Zurich. As I rounded the corner, I literally almost walked right into one of these! I know I can be a bit clumsy and distracted when I walk around (more so now that I'm always on the lookout for a daily picture), and I've been known to bump into things and trip over things. But I also do know to look out for cars and trams and other random obstacles on the street... but camels in a pedestrianized zone in downtown Zurich??? Anyhow, I think it might have been a publicity stunt for the zoo, but I'm not entirely sure.

What a marvellous find -- a bit like my parrot the other day though on a larger scale.
Magnificent photos of animals I have never seen in person and that you could smell them proves your smeller is better than mine. Unless, of course, and you used the words, "they stank." Wow. I wish a camel was around here. Did you ever find out what they were there for?

Hummm ... well, they could be the Lanzarote camels, I suppose, but as far as I'm aware, they're not due to begin their journey until June.
Besides, these really are camels (two humps), whereas ours are actually single-humped dromedaries - though locals do insist on calling both types camels for ease.
There will be four coming from here too - I can't yet tell you if Zurich is on the list of cities - and the easy way to find out if they're ours is to call out "Pamela" and see if one answers!
(No seriously, one of them is called Pamela, probably something to do with humps ... :)
Well what a weird sight that was! Really like the colours and texture in the first photo though. How lucky for you to find them.
I adore weird events like this...what fun for you! As I've spent time in Zurich, I know how absolutely strange it must have been for you.
Being a city boy my whole life, I never got used to the smell of horses. Now I know how camel smells like. :-)
